Qwest Communications provides Digital Switched Services (digital trunking over DS1 facilities), analog and digital data services, Frame Relay, DS3 (45 Mbps), and Centrex Plus. In addition, advanced services such as Transparent LAN Service (4, 10, or 16M native LAN connections), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), and Synchronous Service Transport service may be subscribed to.

Cedar Falls Utilities has implemented a Broadband Fiber Optic Communication System for the City of Cedar Falls. The communications network is based on the hybrid fiber/coax, fiber to the feeder design philosophy. The fiber delivers services directly to major industrial, commercial and institutional users who need high band width services.

Mediacom provides several different services to the area, including many telecommunication services.

The State of Iowa does not tax (interstate) long distance calls outside of the state. There is a 6% tax (intrastate) on calls within the state.

In 2005, The City of Waterloo formed an advisory committee to oversee the direction of telecommunications advancements in the City.
